Innovations in Airline Safety
Ever been grounded for "routine" airplane maintenance? Depending on the circumstances, it can be inconvenient, exasperating, unnerving...or all of the above.
For more than 10 years, researchers like Dr. Cynthia Furse have been working to create a device that finds intermittent problems with wiring.
"We would be able to find those intermittent failures. We could tell you it has happened or it hasn't happened," she explained. "It will also warn you that you need to make changes in advance so that during regular maintenance you could go and put your clamps and insulation in place."
Potentially keeping an airline from grounding all its ... Continue reading.
Here comes the PLANE CZAR!
DC is all abuzz with the appointment of a "CAR Czar!" Well fellow flyers, it seem some enterprising soul on eBay has come to our rescue and created a few more imperial titles to go around: www.PLANECzar.com, www.BoatCzar.com, www.CookieCzar.com -- and my personal favorite: www.JoeTheCzar.com! lol
BTW, took a flight from NJ to Key West the other day. What a great flight. What a great privilege to fly private. Ciao. (And, when I log in next, eBay willing, I expect to log in as the....PLANE Czar!!!! -- eh, like I said, prefer JoeTheCzar even more! Good night all!) Continue reading.
Airplane Smell: The scent of man’s winged history
I have been in love with WW2 era airplanes since I could walk. But as I grew older in age and knowledge of the aircraft themselves, and then having flown a few ... I began to realize that what I love most about them now is the human element and the real human history behind them. After all, iconic aircraft would not be icons or even exist if you-and-I type of people didn't build them, fly them ... and love them.
You know airplanes ALWAYS have a smell. ALWAYS. In fact the longer the history and the more interesting the history ... Continue reading.

1942 Piedmont Airlines Douglas DC-3
I absolutely love airplanes. When I was a kid my parents had split up and frequently they would fly me on Piedmont Airlines. I found this video on YouTube of a very old Piedmont airliner, which I believe is a 1942 Douglas DC-3. Of course, I never flew on this particular airplane, it's first flight was back in 1935 and the video shown below mentions that Piedmont had this plane in their fleet in 1942. The Piedmont Airlines airplanes that I used to fly on were Boeing 727s. I absolutely enjoyed watching this video and I think you will too. Check it out:

On the web site you will learn about the following companies: Jetset Charter, TSH Aero, Artemis Air, Airstream Jets, Commercial Aviation Enterprises, and Merit Jets.
Of the six companies reviewed, I like Merit Jets the best. Also, the Merit Jets web site is really cool. Who ever designed that web site did an amazing job. When ... Continue reading.
