Near disaster landing in Hamburg

A few weeks ago, a near disaster landing took place in Hamburg airport. An inbound Lufthansa Airlines A320 had been cleared to land and was intending to do so while flying through 75 per hour winds. After conducting a crosswind approach, it struck the runway with it’s left wing and then took off again to [...]

Power off: US Airways deactivates powerports on A320s

US Airways is deactivating the powerports on its 102 Airbus A320 family aircraft. See below for two pretty informative Q&As between US Airways and its employees about the carrier's plans. I only hope that US Airways' decision to decimate its domestic in-flight entertainment (IFE) and services in economy class means that it is readying to take a step forward, as previously discussed. Oh I know, that pillow/blanket set sounds really exciting. Calm your enthusiasm. Q. When we remove IFE sys

PHOTOS: The Lumexis IFE system that could find itself on a US Airways A320

So the trial of Lumexis' new seat-back IFE system on a US Airways Airbus A320 may have been delayed, but that shouldn't stop us from getting a good look at it now. Lumexis was in attendance at the recent WAEA exhibition in Long Beach. Here are some Lumexis shots from the show. Sweet!

US Airways sets sights on 1Q trial of new IFE; TWO vendors

A lovely little nugget just emerged from US Airways' third quarter earnings conference call (and it has nothing to do with the airline's massive net loss or its new financing agreement with Airbus and others). CEO Doug Parker revealed the carrier is working with TWO vendors on a seat-back in-flight entertainment (IFE) system to replace drop-down IFE that on 1 November will be turned off and subsequently ripped out of the domestic Airbus A320 family fleet (the carrier's Boeing 737s are not eq

Gemei's A320 PMP borrows Sony's button symbols, forgets to say "thanks"

Gemei's A320 PMP borrows Sony's button symbols, forgets to say "thanks" by Darren Murph, posted Oct 4th 2008 at 7:44AM Look, we'll be honest -- Gemei's PMPs are among the few developed entirely in China that are actually worth a glance, and yes, we're digging the overall sleekness of the A320. But seriously, could we decide on something other than Sony's iconic button logos and a very blatant OS X-sourced wallpaper? Petty gripes aside, the handheld should handle a plethora of audio / video form

Frog In Aircraft Window

A passenger on a Turkish Airlines' Airbus A320 from Moscow to Istanbul in July found a frog perched on an aircraft window. He took this picture before it quickly jumped away. After landing at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, staff at THY Technic went in search of the passenger's amphibean friend. All side walls of the aircraft were released but the frog was eventually found dead probably due to high cabin pressure and dry air. The aircraft's journey before the Istanbul-Moscow flight, was from Ad

Frog In Aircraft Window

Not something you see every day. This little amphibian was spotted in a window of a Turkish Airlines' Airbus A320 in July during a flight from Moscow to Istanbul. A passenger quickly snapped this shot before he slid back in to the side wall. The frog was between the pressurized outer window and the inner cabin pane. After landing in Istanbul mechanics tore through the aircraft but could find no sign of the little guy. Earlier in the day the aircraft started out in the Turkish city of Adana whic

Photos From Manchester Jet Clipping

Photo Credit: Stewart Andrew via Airliners.net If you click on the above photo to blow it up, you can see where the winglet of the Futura International Airways Boeing 737-800 was clipped off when it contacted the tail of this Lufthansa Airbus A320 that was holding at the runway at Manchester International in the U.K yesterday. The Futura 737 was attempting to taxi behind it. The pilots then exchanged insurance information and were on their way (last sentence untrue). Other Photos from BBC

AirAsia follows Emirates' business model

Seems AirAsia isn't prepared to let the new Emirates A380 model at London Heathrow steal all the glory. These pictures show a 12.5m-long replica of one of its A320s, 9M-AFF, being hoisted into position above the AirAsia Academy in Kuala Lumpur. It's the same scale, one-third, as the Emirates model, although much lighter at 1.5 tonnes. AirAsia says it's being installed as part of an expansion for the academy which will have a new look in August.
