Virgin Boeing 747 Runs on BioFuel
For the first time in history a commercial airliner, a Virgin Airlines Boeing 747, was flown with a biofuel and kerosene mixture. The airplane was successful in a test flight between London and Amsterdam. Because this was a test flight, there were no passengers on board.

Air New Zealand to test biofuel on 747
Air New Zealand has scheduled the first commercial test flight in the world to be powered by sustainable second-generation biofuel. One of the Boeing 747’s engines will be fuelled by a blend of jet fuel and synthetic paraffinic kerosene, in a 50:50 proportion. The synthetic fuel is derived from jatropha oil, which is made from seeds grown on environmentally-sustainable farms in India, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. The jatropha plant grows three metres high, producing seeds that contain a

Middle-aged or old, the 747 turns 40
They had color photography back then but we prefer black and white for a shot marking the Boeing 747's fortieth anniversary. It was exactly four decades ago, back in 1968, that they rolled out the world's first two-decked wide-body up at Everett, Washington. In fact, they built the Everett factory just so they'd have a building big enough to accommodate the jumbo. Since then, as they say, the rest is history, and we won't repeat the numbers here. We will note that the earliest 74s are still acti
If you ever have to land a 747, pray that it’s a 747-400
The instruction sheet for landing a Boeing 747 look rather straightforward. Deceptivley straightforward, I should say… Find the checklists in the side pocket of the pilot’s and copilot’s seat. If the plane is a 747-400, engage the Automatic Landing System (ALS). If it is not a 747-400, see below under “Landing Without ALS.”

Boeing 747 Transformed to Jumbo Hostel
Earlier this year, there were posts regarding the new implementation of setting up beds in planes, particularly for first class accommodation. This time around, there are plans for the architecture of a Boeing 747 that will be transformed into a Jumbo Hostel. But unlike other aircrafts that have added bed accommodations, this new concept by Oscar Dios will be mainly served on the ground. The concept is indeed something different. We all know that cases such as delays in flight make it unc
