What Is The Highest Airport In North America?

Telluride Regional Airport is one of the highest airports above sea level. According to AirNav, KTEX is located 5 miles West of TELLURIDE, CO. and has an elevation of 9078ft. From what I can tell, this is the second highest airport in the United States. Here are some aerial shots of Telluride Regional Airport that I captured from Google Maps.

First highest, I believe would be a neighboring airport, Lake County Airport, KLXV which is reported to be 2 miles SW of Leadville, CO. and has an elevation of 9927ft. According to Leadville.com, this is officially the highest in North America! They even offer tours. For scenic air tours call (719) 486-2627. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind taking a scenic air tour, that sounds pretty cool. Here are some aerial shots I captured from Google Maps.

Unless you call for a scenic tour in Leadville, CO. the best thing you can get is this video. Here is a video of a small business jet landing at Telluride Regional Airport. Doesn’t the weather look really cold? Not very scenic, but still pretty cool to watch.
